Can Snapchat beat Instagram in its online shopping game?

With an ever-increasing trend of online shopping, social media platforms seem to have joined the race. Just recently, Instagram launched an online shopping feature and now it’s Snapchat’s turn to do the same.
This week, Snapchat paired up with Amazon to fulfill our wildest dreams. Ever liked a stranger’s shoes and the thought of asking them about the brand and all triggered your social anxiety? Well, Snapchat has come up with a plan; scan the object using your camera and its all details on Amazon will pop up. Isn’t that something?
The feature is called the ‘Visual Search’ which recognizes the product by scanning its barcode as well as the product itself.

Since the company’s big update at the beginning of this year, there has been a sharp decrease in the number of people who use Snapchat. Many of the people now prefer to update Instagram stories instead of Snapchat.
There has been a lot of hype about Instagram’s online shopping feature that lets the users shop things from the stories. According to sources, Instagram is now focusing on a complete app dedicated just to shopping.
Snapchat’s new online shopping feature is much more than what Instagram currently offers. It directs you to Amazon the moment to scan a product. This has the potential to change the way we shop online.
Not just that, Snapchat has also introduced new kinds of ads called ‘Collections’ in its ‘Discover’ section. Just as the ads appear right between the two stories, these Collections will also appear. Unlike other ads where you are asked to swipe up for more, Collections will allow the brands to link directly to their product (Source: Mashable).
Let’s see whether Snapchat becomes the next trendsetter in the online shopping arena or continues to become irrelevant.
