Red Dead Redemption 2 might be coming on PC

Good news; PC master race, Red Dead Redemption 2 might finally be coming out on the world’s most popular gaming platform. Currently, the game is only available on PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

This news will definitely cheer up PC fans who have been dying to try out this game ever since its rumors started flying around.

Red Dead’s rumors of being released on PC were spread when users discovered hidden files on the game’s smartphone app. Some of the game’s most diehard fans were constantly looking for clues within the app, and looks like they might have struck gold.

The aptly named “Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App” allows us to become more immersed in the game’s breathtaking and weirdly accurate environment. The app prevents users from repeatedly pausing the game to check the map as the app displays it on user’s smartphones or tablets.

Some users discovered hidden parameters within the app. These parameters point towards the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version. These two unused parameters are “CommandIsPcVersion” and “PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpPC”. The parameters clearly contain the word PC in them.

There were also several other parameters referencing advanced graphics settings that usually don’t exist on consoles. Such graphics enhancing options don’t exist on consoles because the graphics are optimized to balance visual performance with processing power.

This means that graphics on consoles are not pushed as far as they can be on PCs. The simple reason is PCs are much more powerful than consoles. Even though the first Red Dead Redemption game never made it to PCs, it looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 might still have a chance.

If history tells us anything, it is that the game would be released on PC. Earlier Rockstar Games (the studio behind Red Dead Redemption 2) made it to PC. GTA V which was released on consoles in September 2013 but made its way to PC on April 2015.

The PC version of GTA V had a first-person view as well, which wasn’t available on the console version of the game. First person view was later added to next-generation consoles (Xbox One and PS4) as well. This gave users a more immersive and a different playstyle to try out.

La Noire, another popular Rockstar Game was released on consoles first in May 2011 and just a few months later the game was released on PC.

There are other reasons to suspect the game coming out such as a Rockstar employee mentioning a possible PC build on his Linkedin profile. As with most software or technology related news, it is best not to get your hopes up without hearing from the developers themselves. Just keep your fingers crossed in the meantime.

If Rockstar Games decides to release the game on PC, it will be a win-win situation for both PC gamers and the game studio itself. PC gamers have a much wider audience. Rockstar will be able to double or even triple its profits because of this.

Many gamers prefer PCs over consoles and there are really valid reasons for that. PC offers better graphics, better aim mechanics and a higher frame rate. All of these contribute to a more immersive experience. Who does not like immersion when robbing a bank or being involved in a Mexican standoff in the Wild Wild West.
