We might have some interesting news regarding the next OnePlus flagship device. OnePlus 7 has been leaked online and it looks like it won’t have that annoying notch display. The leaks were posted by SlashLeaks.
The images show the phone surrounded by a tan case and a display with no notch on it. The phone seems to have an all screen display which means it is practically bezel-less. It is entirely possible that OnePlus might go for a slide mechanism to hold the front camera and receiver speaker.
A grill hole is also visible in the image. It has holes cut into it which most likely hold sensors and other gadgetry.
The sliding mechanism might actually be true as many phones are following the trend of slider mechanisms. Phones such as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and Honor Magic 2 already have slider mechanisms. So it seems like we might be getting another phone following the masses instead of a trendsetter.
OnePlus also said it would be releasing the world’s first phone using Snapdragon 855 processor.
The company had previously announced that it would make the world’s first 5G-enabled phone. It could be this phone or another smartphone altogether. The 5G market is just revving up and we expect to see some models at MWS19 in Barcelona next month. But OnePlus might be waiting for 5G infrastructure to be in place before it fully invests into this market.
5G phones will be a big addition to the smartphone industry and we’ve already seen some hints of the future at CES19. But while 5G networks will be at least 10 times to 100 times faster than 4G networks, they will also be energy hogs. It remains to be seen how this will all work out in terms of cost and energy consumption.
OnePlus usually launches its smartphones mid-year, around May or June, so we might have to wait a bit longer to see something more concrete.
