OnePlus announced on their blog today that the new Android Pie-based OxygenOS 9.0 update is releasing soon for the OnePlus 6.
The new update will transform the way the Chinese company labels its updated versions. Going forward, all the upcoming OxygenOS update versions will match the Android update versions.
So simply, as things stand the current version will be OxygenOS 9.0, which will be equivalent to Android 9.0 Pie.

- New Android Pie Gesture Navigation system
- Updated Android security patch to 2018.9
- New adaptive battery support
- Other new smaller feature updates and bug improvements
- Accent Color

- New do not disturb mode will have adjustable settings
- New Gaming Mode 3.0
- Added notification for third-party calls
- Added text notification mode
OnePlus has decided not to release the Over the Air (OTA) update all at once, instead, it will be releasing the update in small batches over the coming days. This is so to minimize any bugs.
OnePlus states in the blog post, “The OTA will be received by a limited number of users today and will have a broader rollout in a few days after making sure there are no critical bugs.”
You can check for updates by going to Settings > System Updates > Check for updates tab on your OnePlus device.
OnePlus confirmed that since it’s a phased out update, some users will receive it today, while others might have to wait for a few days.
So far, only Germany has been confirmed to receive the update.
There have been some reports that users from other European nations, Canada and India have also received the update during the initial stage. But it is hard to know for sure since these could all be rumors.
The company hasn’t given any clarification or other update specifications, such as which countries will be getting the update and at what time.
We haven’t seen any confirmations on OnePlus’s social media pages, either, so it is safe to assume that this might just be a Germany-only update.
OnePlus’s German Public Relations Agency has stated in an official press release that the new update will include features such as gesture navigation, a new “gaming mode 3.0 and an upgraded “do not disturb” mode with customizable settings”
It might be that the PR company hastily put out a statement, and German media outlets have picked up on the news.
However, there’s still no official evidence about anyone actually receiving the update.
This update won’t just be for OnePlus 6. OnePlus has confirmed that the update will also be coming out to the OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 3 models.
Android Pie will also be coming out on Google’s Pixel and Pixel 2 phones.
This new update will hopefully let OnePlus compete directly with Google Pixel phones, as frequent updates in one of the key demands of most consumers.
