50 million Facebook profiles hacked!

Facebook 50 million profiles hacked
Facebook's 50 million accounts hacked, Facebook officials confirmed.

If you woke up this morning with your Facebook account being logged out from your phone then you might be one of those unfortunate 50 million.

As a precautionary measure, Facebook logged out 90 million users from their accounts. Moreover, the users will also be logged out from all the apps that use Facebook’s account to be logged into.
Looks like Facebook is in for yet another massive security blunder. According to The Sun, Mark Zuckerberg’s account has been hacked as well. This is the social platform’s largest security breach to date.
“On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 25, our engineering team discovered a security issue affecting almost 50 million accounts. We’re taking this incredibly seriously and wanted to let everyone know what’s happened and the immediate action we’ve taken to protect people’s security,” said Rosen from the Facebook team.
Hackers have been revealing the loopholes in the online systems from quite a long time which raises concern about people’s private data. This massive breach has made 50 million users’ data including their private messages, posts, photos at a serious risk. The figure ”50 million” is just an estimate, Facebook still is not sure about the exact number.
A Facebook official explained:
“This attack exploited the complex interaction of multiple issues in our code, it stemmed from a change we made to our video uploading feature in July 2017, which impacted ‘View As. The attackers not only needed to find this vulnerability and use it to get an access token, they then had to pivot from that account to others to steal more tokens.”
When asked about whether the hackers have been traced or not, Facebook further explained:
“Since we’ve only just started our investigation, we have yet to determine whether these accounts were misused or any information accessed, we also don’t know who’s behind these attacks or where they’re based. We’re working hard to better understand these details — and we will update this post when we have more information, or if the facts change. In addition, if we find more affected accounts, we will immediately reset their access tokens.”
From open claim by Chang to hack Zuckerberg’s page on a live broadcast to this, we aren’t quite sure where Facebook’s next PR disaster is headed.
Until next time?
